Membership in the Canadian Sport Massage Therapists Association is open to massage therapists, students of massage therapy schools and individuals who meet the eligibility criteria of the appropriate membership categories and are interested in promoting and maintaining the objectives of the CSMTA. Your membership fee is tax deductible.


Membership categories:

Student Member

Student members must be registered in a government licensed massage therapy school within Canada. Student members will receive notice of all CSMTA member meetings, but will not be allowed to vote at these meetings.

Certification Candidate SMT(cc)

A Certification Candidate Member SMT(cc) is an individual who has successfully completed a massage therapy program with a government licensed massage therapy school in Canada and who is a member in good standing of their respective provincial Massage Therapy college or in the case of a province or territory with no such regulatory body, a professional massage therapy association. Candidate members are allowed to vote at all CSMTA member meetings and are entitled to use the CSMTA insignia SMT(cc).

Certified Sport Massage Therapist SMT (C)

A Certfified Sport Massage Therapist Member is an individual who has successfully completed all requirements of the National Sport Massage Certification Program© and who is a member in good standing of their respective provincial Massage Therapy college or in the case of a province or territory with no such regulatory body, a professional massage therapy association. Certified members are allowed to work unsupervised at all levels of sport, vote at all CSMTA member meetings and are entitled to use the CSMTA insignia SMT(C).

Associate Member

An Associate Member is an individual who does not qualify for any other CSMTA membership category, but expresses an interest in maintaining the objectives of the CSMTA. Associate members are not allowed to vote at CSMTA member meetings.

Honorary Member

An Honorary Member is an individual who is nominated and meets the CSMTA National Board approval for membership. Honorary members are not allowed to vote at CSMTA member meetings.

Inactive Member

An Inactive Member is an individual who was a Student Member, Candidate Member or Certified Member and has resigned their membership, but has requested to remain an Inactive Member. These members will receive notice of all CSMTA member meetings, but will not be allowed to vote at these meetings.
